The Climbing Sun

The last sunset was four days ago, and the sun climbs yet higher each day.  Gone are the long hours of polychromatic twilight and the spectacular auroral displays in the darkness.

These phenomena of the winter and spring seasons have been replaced by the phenomena of the full sun and the nearly daily appearance of sun halos.  The sky today was streaked with pale and rainbow bands, with the sun at the nexus.  A 'parhelic circle' passed through the sun, this horizontal stripe wrapping all the way around the sky.  And a broad arc first rose, then dipped, from the top of the inner solar halo--depending on who you ask, either a 'Parry arc' or 'solar mustache.'
